Neither the New York Rangers or Philadelphia Flyers have impressed lately with the home team coming off three consecutive losses and the visitors nurturing a two game losing streak of their own. The Rangers have dominated these meetings in recent years though, and I'm looking for them to get the job done tonight.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. The Flyers struggling D - Philadelphia has conceded 10 goals in it's last two games, going a really poor 1-for-7 on the penalty kill. They rank in the bottom five in the NHL with 33.2 shots against per game so it's not surprising that the goals are starting to trickle in. Ray Emery conceded six against the Canadiens on Saturday which could open up for Steve Mason. He's not been particularly fortunate lately either though, giving up four goals on 38 shots against Columbus last Friday and he is 0-3-1 with a 3.44 GAA all-time at the MSG.
2. Road woes - The Flyers are 2-5-0 on the road for the season and have lost four of their last five away from home. Chances are those numbers will be worse after this game, the Flyers have lost 13 of the last 16 meetings in New York.
3. X-factor - Henrik Lundqvist has a 1.13 GAA over eight straight regular season wins against the Flyers at Madison Square Garden.
Selection: This is a play on the New York Rangers (8*)
