The Detroit Red Wings are coming to Winnipeg on the back of a shutout win at Columbus Tuesday as they will face the Jets tonight. The home team was impressive on defense in their last game as well, limiting the Devils to one goal on 22 shots in a 3-1 win. I don't expect to see many goals in this contest between two of the better defensive teams in the league.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Defending - Jets are ranked fourth in the league for goals allowed closely followed by the Red Wings in eighth. The goalies should get a lot of credit with Jimmy Howard and Ondrej Pavelec dominating opponent after opponent, but they also get terrific help from the skaters as both teams are in the top six regarding shots allowed on goal.
2. Special Teams - The Wild's power play ranks near the bottom of the league, second to only the Wild and the Sabres scoring on less than 10% of their opportunities. They have not scored on the power play since November 8, going 0-for-18 over their last five games. If they're expecting to turn things around tonight they better think again, the Red Wings are boasting the third best penalty kill in the league.
3. X-factor - Five of the Jets last six have gone under the total.
Selection: This is a play on DET@WIN to go under the total (5*)
