The Pittsburgh Penguins lost 5-4 in the skills competition (shootout) in the opener of a home and home against the New York Islanders last night. The Pens have dominated on the road all season long though, and they've done particularly well in New York over recent seasons so I'm looking for them to bounce back quickly tonight.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. The Islanders Penalty Kill - The New Yorkers managed to avoid any penalties last night, luckily for them as they have the fifth worst penalty kill in the league giving up a goal a quarter of the chances. They will be up against the NHL's best power play over recent seasons and I doubt they will survive yet another game without facing some time with a man less on the ice.
2. Road Warriors - The Penguins have won seven of their nine games outside of Pittsburgh this season, which is no surprise as they finished the previous season with 23 road wins, only three shy of the league's best. Expect more success away from home tonight as the Penguins have won six of the last seven meetings in New York.
3. X-Factor - Patric Hornqvist has had a great start to the season leading the Pens with 10 goals, and he has found the net seven times over his last six games against the Islanders.
Selection: This is a play on the Pittsburgh Penguins (10*)
