This is a 10* TOTAL RED DRAGON on the OVER between the Indiana Pacers and the San Antonio Spurs.
We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account numerous different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. One set of criteria which we always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics.
This particular play is based primarily on strong/relevant O/U ATS statistics and common sense:
As note that Indiana has seen the total go OVER the number in four of its last seven after scoring 86 points or less in its previous outing, while San Antonio has seen the total go OVER the number in 11 of 21 home games this year.
The bottom line: We got down early and unfortunately we've been saddled with a poor line here. Regardless, we still love this "situational" play. It's true that these teams don't play to many "OVERS," but we feel that there are overwhelming situational factors (combined with the above strong O/U trends which points to the OVER as the savvy move) that finally point to a shootout here. Both teams are losing and will be hungry to break a string of recent shoddy play. Indiana has lost two straight, falling 100-86 at Portland, before then dropping a listless 99-86 game against the Lakers. San Antonio is just 5-5 in its last ten, most recently falling 86-83 at Toronto. With a desperate Cleveland side coming to town on Tuesday, the Spurs will also be looking to push the pace. We're expecting a wide open affair and for this one to fly OVER as it comes down the stretch.
