This is a great situational play; despite backing what I believe to be the clearly superior starter in this matchup, Phillies hurler AJ Burnett is going to likely be traded from the team after this game, meaning that the veteran has a lot on his mind other than this contest; we're going to take advantage. The Giants are surging, they've won five of six to reclaim the NL West lead, while the Phillies are trending in the opposite direction, firmly entrenched in the cellar. Burnett (6-9, 4.08 ERA) was shelled for six runs and ten hits in five innings in a 6-4 loss to the Braves on Friday. While Burnett has enjoyed some success vs. the Giants in the past, I think he's going to run into a buzzsaw today, San Francisco is surging; note that Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Pence are a combined 8 for 18 off of him. The visitors counter with Madison Bumgarner (11-7, 3.38 ERA) who is coming off a great outing in which he gave up one run off four hits over six frames in a 9-1 win over the Fish on Friday; note that Bumgarner is 7-2 with highly respectable 1.94 ERA in 11 road starts this year. And that's bad news for the scuffling Phillies who have in fact lost eight of nine at home overall. I'm playin the GIANTS.
