Travelling "across the pond" is a difficult task for even professionals, so to expect these kids to be razor focused for this first game in Ireland is asking a lot I believe, when the smoke does finally clear at the end of this one, I expect this total to stay below the posted number. This is the first game outside the USA for both programs. This is a "revenge" game for Penn State as UCF came into Happy Valley last season and left with a 34-31 victory. The Knights are without two of their key offensive pieces though as both QB Blake Bortles and Storm Johnson left to the NFL, meaning that redshirt freshman Pete DiNovo will get the call today. UCF does bring back one of the most experienced defensive units in the AAC though with nine returning starters (in fact, the Knights have 24 of 30 defensive players back that saw action in at least one game in 2013). Penn State got a lot out of QB Christian Hackenberg last year, but he'll have to adjust to losing his best target at receiver. That means that Hackenberg will be leaning heavily on his run game, a trio of capable RB's are back this year and we should expect to see a heavy dose of the run game today. So, other than starting their respective seasons in a different country and a different time zone, these teams are also going to have to adjust to the large playing surface as a Gaelic pitch is about 20 yards wider and deeper than a US sized field, meaning that depth perception will be a major issue. Note that the stadium seats 82,000, but has been re-configured to fit 55,000. I believe all of these situational factors point to the UNDER as the sharp wager in this contest.
