This is a 10* TOTAL EXPRESS on the UNDER between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Toronto Raptors.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Payback time: The Raptors will be out to avenge a 117-112 loss in Minnesota on February 10th and to win their ninth-straight at home. Toronto is among the best in the league defensively, giving up an average of just under 98 points per game.

Classic letdown spot: The Wolves are coming off a big 124-122 win over Boston on Monday, nearly blowing a ten-point lead in the final 75 seconds. Note that rookie-phenom Karl-Anthony Towns, who had a career-high 35 points vs. the Raptors earlier in the month, is averaging just 14 points in three road games this month, while team-mate Ricky Rubio is averaging only 6.7 points on 28.0 percent shooting over his last seven away from friendly confines.

ATS statistics: Note that Minnesota has seen the total go UNDER the number in 15 of 28 this season after allowing 105 points or more, while Toronto has seen the total stay below the posted number in five of seven this season as a home fav in the 9.5 to 12 points range and in 12 of 21 after scoring 105 points or more.

The bottom line: Three strong sets of factors collide to make the UNDER the the savvy move in this contest.
