This is an 8* play on the UNDER between the Memphis Grizzlies and the LA Lakers.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Top defensive play: The Grizzlies are 12-4 in their last 16 games, they've been uncharacteristically been getting the job done with some lights out offensive play in averaging 105.6 points during that stretch. However, note that Memphis is ranked sixth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of just 99.5 PPG. And note that over their first 40 games, the Grizzlies averaged just 95.9 PPG.

Revenge: The home side will be out to atone for Wednesday's 128-119 setback at Memphis on Wednesday.

ATS statistics: This play is however based mainly on some very strong and relevant Over/Under ATS statistics, as note that Memphis has seen the total go UNDER the number in eight of 14 this year after scoring 105 points or more and in 15 of 26 on the road, while LA has seen the total dip below the posted number in 15 of 25 at home and in nine of 14 after scoring 105 points or more.

The bottom line: We think a contented Grizzlies team comes out flat-footed and that'll be just enough to keep this one UNDER the posted number.
