This is a 10* TOTAL EXPRESS on the UNDER between the Buffalo Sabres and the San Jose Sharks.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Motivated home side: The Sharks were inexplicably 0-7-1 in this series before a 2-1 OT win on November 14th. San Jose will be especially motivated today to duplicate that effort and break a four-game losing streak in the series in front of the home town crowd.

Inept offense: The Sabres opened a three-game California trip with a 1-0 loss to Anaheim in Wednesday, marking the fifth time they've been shutout this year. Buffalo was 0-4 on the power play in the setback to the Ducks.

ATS statistics: Note that Buffalo has seen the total go UNDER the number in 11 of 16 non-conference games this season and in 19 of 31 in trying to revenge a loss vs. an opponent, while San Jose has seen the total dip below the posted number in 11 of 20 after allowing four goals or more.

The bottom line: Three sets of strong factors collide to make the UNDER the savvy move in this contest.
