This is a 10* TOTAL EXPRESS on the UNDER between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Miami injury concerns: The Heat have been resilient in the face of mounting injuries, surging to the top of the Southeast Division, but a letdown is imminent with the continued ailments. Already without Chris Bosh due to blood clots in his legs, the team is also without backup point guard Beno Udrih, while Tyler Johnson will miss the rest of the season because of shoulder surgery. Both Hassan Whiteside and Dwyane Wade have missed time recently as well.

Boston coming back down to Earth: After a 9-1 stretch from mid January to early February, the C's have cooled off big time, trading wins and losses over their last six. And it won't get any easier for Boston today in having to face Miami's smothering defense, which ranks near the top of the league in holding opponents to under 97 PPG.

Over/Under ATS statistics: Note that Miami has seen the total go UNDER the number in 16 of 22 this season following a non-conference game, in 21 of 30 in trying to revenge a loss vs. an opponent and in 21 of 30 vs. teams with winning records, while Boston has seen the total stay below the posted number in eight of 14 this year when the number is greater than or equal to 210.

The bottom line: Miami won't be going down without a fight today but knows that it can't get into a "track meet" with the Celtics and hope to earn the upset. With the visitors looking to slow the pace down at every chance possible and "bully" their way to the upset victory, all signs point to more of a "chess match" than a "shootout." Play on the UNDER.
