This is a 10* play on the OVER between North Carolina and Duke.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Revenge: The Tar Heels will be hell bent to send a message on the final game of the regular season and to avenge a 74-73 setback to the Blue Devils on February 17th. At 13-4, UNC sits tied with Miami for first place in the ACC. In fact, Duke has now won four straight in the series. Note that UNC averages 83.1 and gives up 70.6 this year.

Momentum: Both teams actually come into this one with a ton of momentum and confidence and there's no reason not to think that that won't get carried over here, as North Carolina has won three of four, while Duke is coming off a convincing 79-71 win over Wake Forest on March 1st. The Blue Devils shoot a lights-out 46.5 percent from the floor and 38.9 percent from behind the arc this season. And note that the Blue Devils aren't very good defensively either, allowing 71.0 PPG on average, while also letting the opposition shoot 44.3 percent from the floor.

The bottom line: This one has all the makings of a run and gun shootout rather than a defensive affair, all signs do indeed point to the OVER as the savvy move in this contest.
