(MLB) Washington vs. San Diego, 05/09/2018 5:10 PM, Score: 1 - 2
Money Line: -123.00 Washington (Away)
Result: Loss
This price is low enough to back the Nationals, winners of nine of its last 10 games.

San Diego is 6-14 in its last 20 games. The Padres' lineup is minus injured Wil Myers and Hunter Renfroe. The loss of Myers makes San Diego's lineup really weak. The Padres were shut out last night by Jeremy Hellickson and three relievers. San Diego isn't likely to get a lot of offense considering its lineup last night had Travis Jankowksi leading off, Frenchy Cordero hitting clean-up and Raffy Lopez batting sixth.

Now the Padres face Gio Gonzalez, who is pitching as well as he ever has during his seven years with the Nationals. Gonzalez owns the eighth-ranked ERA in the National League at 2.33. Only once in his seven starts this season has Gonzalez given up more than two earned runs. San Diego ranks 28th in batting average and 27th in runs scored.

The lay price is fairly low because San Diego is going with rookie Joey Lucchesi, who has pitched well at Petco Park. He's 2-1 with a 3.08 ERA at home. The league is finding out about Lucchesi, though. He's 1-2 with a 5.17 ERA in his last three starts. Lucchesi has yielded four homers and nine walks during this three-game stretch spanning 15 2/3 innings.

The Nationals are averaging 6.1 runs in their last eight games.
