Here come the Mets, winners of five straight (those three on the weekend over the Chisox count) and six of seven, and now just a half-game behind the Braves for the last NL wild card berth. It might get better for New York, too, because Tuesday starter David Peterson has been their best pitcher this past month, posting a 1.86 ERA in six August starts, with the Mets winning five of those. More to like with New York than the Bosox, who have tailed off at the wrong time, dropping nine of twelve to severely damage their AL wild card hopes. The offense hasn't provided much help lately for Tuesday starter Kutter Crawford (Boston losing in his last three starts) , either, but Crawford has done his share to damage things lately, too, as his 6.32 ERA for six August starts suggests.
