Oddsmakers are granting a lot of room here to Texas State, the new flavor of the month of the Sun Belt. The Bobcats began to make noise under new HC GJ Kinne last fall, notching a first-ever bowl win in the process (45-21 over rice in the First Responder Bowl at Dallas). Last week's 49-10 romp past nearby UTSA is considered a warning shot by many to the region and especially the Sun Belt, and adding much-traveled QB Jordan McCloud (fourth school in four years!), off of 35 TD passes last fall at JMU, has further fueled the optimism. We note, however, that McCloud might not be much of an upgrade on predecessor TJ Finley (now at WKU after SEC duty earlier in his career), Meanwhile, ASU looked much upgraded itself in home wins over Wyoming and Mississippi State, with some consistent work at QB from Michigan State transfer Sam Leavitt, and balance provided by wild man RB Cam Skattebo, who bruised the SEC Bulldogs for 262 YR in ASU's 30-23 win last Saturday. Though TSU did beat a downgraded Baylor last season, are the Bobcats ready to lay points to a competent power conference foe? Play ASU
