If the regular season ended on Halloween, Pitt would have been in great shape, as the Panthers stood 7-0 entering November, with dreams of an ACC title game appearance and a spot in the 12-team playoff dancing in their heads. Since then, however, four losses on the spin, and blasted in the two road defeats at SMU and Louisville by a combined 85-34, suggesting the Panthers were a pretender all along. The architect of a series of early-season escapes, QB Eli Holstein, is now hurting and likely to miss this clash at Chestnut Hill, with backup Nate Yarnell (only 96 YP last week vs. the Cards) not the same threat. Meanwhile, BC is closing fast, securing bowl eligibility and playing three solid games in a row, sandwiching impressive home wins over bowl-bound Syracuse and North Carolina around a near-miss at top ten SMU. Bill O'Brien's November switch at QB to FIU transfer Grayson James has better-balanced the offense that has always been able to run this season and punished the Tar Heels with 228 YR a week ago, while RB Kye Robichaux is just a few weeks removed from 198 YR vs. Syracuse.
