The Vanderbilt Commodores take a long trip west to Hawaii to take on the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors. Vanderbilt was just 2-10 last season in the SEC. Hawai’i went 6-7 last year and has a new head coach in former Warrior quarterback Timmy Chang. The Commodores put up 15.8 points and 312.8 yards a game last season. On the defensive side, they gave up 35.8 points and 457.3 yards a game. They return quarterback Ken Seals, who threw for 1,200 yards, with 5 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Will Sheppard and Devin Boddie Jr. combined for 800 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. The Rainbow Warriors put up 28.8 points and 405 yards a game last season. On the defensive side, they gave up 31.4 points and 446 yards. Brayden Schager had 108 pass attempts last season, but they have two transfers that could see playing time. Hawaii lost its top three receivers from last year's team. Running back Dedrick Parson returns after recording 300 receiving yards, 600 rushing yards, and 9 total touchdowns. The Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors have a new coaching staff and a lot of new faces on the roster. They return just 33 percent of last year's production. The Commodores are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Rainbow Warriors are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in August. I know it is tough to travel to Hawaii but you can get a team that is used to playing in the SEC for less than a touchdown against a team that has a lot of new moving parts on both the field and the sideline. This could be the best Vandy team in years and I expect them to go to the Island and come away with a win and cover.
