I picked St. Louis to win yesterday and will target the total in today's Cardinals-Rockies game, as I feel confident both pitchers are in for rocky outings.
STL SP Erick Fedde hasn't been effective since being moved from the White Sox to the Cardinals at the trade deadline, posting a 1-5 record with a 4.07 ERA. His road splits aren't encouraging, either (4.50 ERA and 1.4 homers allowed per nine innings). Colorado is a much more potent offensive squad at Coors Field than it is on the road, scoring 1.5 more runs per game at home with .267 BA/.332 OBP/.438 SLG/.770 OPS splits.
COL SP Austin Gomber doesn't generate many swings and misses, which is a problem in the Denver elevation. He is a fly ball pitcher (46.6% FB%) who pitches to contact with a 46% hard-hit percentage with an average exit velocity of 91.2 MPH and a max EV of 112.7 MPH. The lefty allows 1.7 homers per nine innings and leads the NL in homers allowed (30). He has a 4.82 ERA and .281 opponent BA at home this year. With the league's worst bullpen backing him up, I expect another high-scoring performance from the Cards, pushing the total over ten tonight!
