I prefer Kyle Freeland and the Rockies in Thursday's matchup with Kyle Gibson and the Cardinals. Freeland has a 3.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP this month (24.0 IP) and has cut down on his walks recently (two walks total in his last five starts). Considering three of his September outings were against Atlanta, Milwaukee and the LA Dodgers, you can see why I'm more bullish on him than Gibson, who has walked nine batters in three September starts and allowed three homers in his last two starts.

The Cardinals are firmly over the .500 mark and should achieve their goal of a winning season, as they play the Giants next. Colorado welcomes the Dodgers to town after Thursday's game, so this may be their last chance for a win this year. Given that, I see additional value in the Rockies to close out this series with a victory on Thursday afternoon in Denver!
