This is a 10* TOTAL OF THE WEEK on the UNDER between the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers.
Setting the scene: Detroit dropped its first two games of the year, but rebounded on Monday to beat the Senators 5-2 on Monday. We had a play on the Wings in that one, it was our GAME OF THE MONTH. It was a great situational play and the price was very fair. New York has won two of three to open the year and has had to fend off a third-period push in both victories, most recently it would hold on for a 5-4 win over the Sharks on Monday.
REASONING: When making a play on the total (for every sport), we like to look at the "situation." The situation that each team finds itself in coming into this contest and then the overall situation itself. With both teams coming off higher-scoring affairs, we're expecting a more defensive contest this evening. Whenever these team's have met, it's been a battle as the past six meetings have been decided by one goal, with four going to OT. Neither team has any reason to "look ahead," so we are indeed expecting another war tonight. Note that Detroit has seen the total go UNDER the number in 18 of its last 30 road games where the total is set at 5.5, while New York has seen the total go UNDER the number in four of its last six home games with a total of 5.5.
