This is an 8* TOTAL ART OF THE GAME on the OVER between the Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers.
We've played the "over" in the first two games of this series and we've come up short in each. We're back on the horse in the finale as we think these teams will combine for just enough to push this one OVER the number as it comes down the stretch.
Phil Hughes: He was just 1-7 with a 5.97 ERA last year and struggled mightily in spring, but Hughes came out firing in his first start of the season, allowing one run over six innings with three K's and no walks in the victory over the White Sox last Friday. Note that Hughes was horrible in this spot last year though, going 0-3 with a 5.54 ERA on the road and 0-3 with a 5.29 ERA in all "day" games.
Jordan Zimmermann: He posted a poor 4.87 ERA and career-worst 1.37 WHIP last year and also had a poor spring performance. Zimmermann though also had a strong first outing of 2017, going six frames and allowing just one run off four hits while striking out three in a victory over Boston on Saturday. Note that he was just 5-5 with a ballooned 7.00 ERA at home last year.
The bottom line: After staring the year with four straight wins, the Twins have now lost three of their last four. Clearly the visitors can't be happy with their production, having posted just four runs over the first two games. We feel that the conditions are now finally right for a higher-scoring slug-fest. Play the OVER.
