Money Line: 184.00 Milwaukee (Away)
Result: Push
This is an 8* play on the Milwaukee Brewers.
We like the Brewers to build off yesterday's upset and to take advantage of shaky Jake Arrieta on Sunday afternoon.
Chase Anderson: He's 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA. He gave up four runs off six hits while walking three and striking out five over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against the Padres on Monday. Anderson was just 9-11 with a 4.33 ERA last year, but he did post a respectable 3.38 ERA in all "day" games.
Arrieta: He's 4-3 with a 5.44 ERA. He most recently gave up four runs off seven hits (including two dingers) over six innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Sunday. Arrieta has now posted just one quality start over his last six trips to the mound. Note that he owns a ballooned 6.04 ERA in four day games already this year.
The bottom line: Note that Milwaukee is quietly surging right now, after yesterday's win it's now 11-5 (+7.6 units) in May and 19-13 (+9 units) against right-handed starters. Also note that the Cubs are just 8-8 (-2.1 units) this month and only 14-16 (-9.8 units) against right handed starters. Arrieta is simply overpriced here and MILWAUKEE can smell the blood in the water.
