Total: 8.50 | -110.00 Over
Result: Loss
This is an 8* play on the UNDER between the New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
We expect these competent hurlers to battle deep and for this one to fall below the posted number once it's all said and done.
Zack Wheeler: He's 3-2 with a 3.74 ERA. Wheeler most recently allowed two runs off four hits and five K's over five innings in a victory over the Angels on Saturday. Wheeler has looked good of late, allowing just five earned runs and posting 19 K's over his last 21.2 innings of work spanning four starts. And note that Wheeler has been particularly sharp on the road, going 1-0 with a 2.76 ERA thus far.
Gerrit Cole: He's 2-5 with a 3.36 ERA. Cole is coming off his first crummy outing of 2017, giving up five runs off ten hits over 4.2 innings in a loss to the Braves on Monday. Cole's fastball though topped out at nearly 96 MPH, which bodes well for the fifth year pro moving forward. Note that Cole has been particularly effective at home this year as well with a 1.67 ERA to this point.
The bottom line: Both teams have played to some higher-scoring affairs of late, but all signs now finally point to more of a pitchers duel this evening. Play the UNDER.
