This is an 8* ASSASSIN on the OVER between Arizona State and Texas Tech.
Arizona State has seen the total go 0-2 so far, while Texas Tech has seen it go 0-1. Arizona State will be eager to atone for last week's upset loss to SDSU (30-20 at home), while Texas Tech smashed Eastern Washington 56-10 in its season opener, before enjoying its bye last weekend. When these teams met last year it was an absolute "barn-burner," with the Sun Devils holding on for the 68-55 victory back on September 10th, 2016.
Arizona State: The Sun Devils simply couldn't get anything going against the Aztecs. Fortunately the offense faces a much weaker defense this weekend. So far Arizona State is 81st in the FBS in scoring with an average of 28.5 PPG, while tied for 92nd in conceding 30.5 PPG. QB Manny Wilkins will be out for redemption today, so far he's been above average with 598 yards, four TD's and no INT's on the year. RB Kalen Ballage has 123 yards and three TD's.
Texas Tech: The Red Raiders will be fresh and focused here. QB Nic Shimonek was 26 of 30 for 384 yards and three TD's in his first career start against Eastern Washington. You'll also want to keep your eyes on RB Desmond Misby, who had six carries for 57 yards in that one. Defense was the team's main issue last year and clearly the unit faces a much stiffer test this weekend.
The bottom line: Note that Arizona State has seen the total go OVER the number in its last two as a road dog in the 3.5 to seven points range, while Texas Tech has seen the total go OVER the number in two of its last three following its bye week. We foresee very little defense being played today as each team opens up the playbook and keeps the foot on the gas from start to finish. Play the OVER.
