Celtics at Mavs
(NBA) Celtics (BOS) vs. Mavericks (DAL),
Point Spread: -1.00 | -110.00 Celtics (BOS) (Away)
Result: Loss
Unless the 2004 Red Sox show up to provide (which we couldn't imagine against the hometown Celtics), Dallas is up against the wall, as no NBA team has ever rallied from 0-3 down to win a playoffs series. Still, we only talk about Game 4, and what to make of that belated yet dramatic 4th Q rally by the Mavs on Wednesday? A sign of life from Dallas? The latest example of Boston sometimes playing with its food? We are suggesting the latter, because the angles continue to shade the Celtics, especially as the Mavs are sill struggling with their triples (22 for 78 or just 28% in the series). Kyrie Irving even resurfaced in Game 3 with 35 points, but it wasn't enough for Dallas, which should be getting better leadership from Luka Doncic, admittedly playing on one leg but looking distracted and displaying too much petulance with the refs, which seems to be rubbing off on his teammates. Boston has been able to take its chances playing Luka and Kyrie straight-up in this series, with the length on the perimeter to force them into the middle of the floor where traffic is invariably clogged. The Dallas "others" have also not been nearly as effective in this series as they were in previous rounds, and now Jayson Tatum is warming up, scoring 31 in Game 3 after some subpar scoring in the first two games. For the Celtics, it might suit the fans better to wait until Game 5 to wrap up this series, but no one in Beantown is going to mind if Tatum, Brown & Co fly back with the trophy after Friday night.
